Maharaja Tempo Traveller on Rent in Mumbai

Hire a Maharaja tempo traveller in Mumbai with a driver. We run it in two sizes: a 13 seater with one seat on each side of the aisle, and a 20 seater with two on one side and one on the other. There is also a Maharaja luxury modified Urbania in 9 and 10 seater.

The difference between a standard seat and a Maharaja seat is like the difference between economy and business class on a flight. You are paying for width, a dedicated armrest and personal space, so nobody is bumping shoulders on a six hour drive.

The Three Maharaja Options

Maharaja seating is not a separate vehicle. It is a standard vehicle rebuilt inside with fewer, wider seats.

  1. 13seats

13 Seater Maharaja Tempo Traveller on Rent

One seat on each side of the aisle, so nobody has a neighbour. This is the most spacious tempo traveller layout available and the one we suggest for long temple trips and for moving senior staff.

  2. 20seats

20 Seater Maharaja Tempo Traveller on Rent

Two seats on one side, one on the other, all of them wider than standard. It keeps a useful headcount while giving everyone noticeably more room than a normal 26 seater would.

  3. 9–10seats

9 and 10 Seater Maharaja Luxury Urbania on Rent

The Urbania rebuilt with extra large seats. Fewer people, the most space per person of anything we run, and the softer Urbania ride underneath. Worth asking about for long drives with older passengers.

Maharaja seats

The most asked question

Seating and Luggage

Because a Maharaja carries fewer people in the same body, there is more room left for bags. The rule is the same as our other vehicles: medium bags roughly match the seat count, large bags come to about 60 to 65 per cent of it. On a Maharaja the seat count is lower, so the space per person is higher on both counts.

For multi day trips the Maharaja is usually the right call even when a standard vehicle would seat everyone, simply because the bags have to go somewhere.

An honest comparison

Maharaja or Standard Tempo Traveller?

Take the Maharaja if the drive is long or anyone travelling is elderly. Take the standard tempo traveller if you need maximum headcount or the budget is tight. It is the same vehicle underneath. What you are paying for is space per person, exactly like paying for a wider seat on a flight.

Popular Routes in a Maharaja

Google Maps times assume a car on an empty road. A full vehicle with a speed limiter, a halt and Mumbai traffic on the way out takes longer, and the distance runs higher than the straight line too. Here is what to actually plan for.

Some venues and rural roads on these routes cannot take a large vehicle. Tell us the exact pickup and drop address, including any unpaved or monsoon affected stretches, and we will confirm access before you book rather than on the day.

Ours, not sourced

How We Source Maharaja Vehicles

We do not own Maharaja seating. Maharaja vehicles come through our vetted partner network, and we are telling you that upfront rather than letting you find out later.

What we control is the standard. Any Maharaja vehicle we send is under three years old and in the category you booked or higher. We check the interior before it goes out, because rebuild quality varies a great deal between builders and that is the whole point of this vehicle.

Partner vehicles

When we bring in a vehicle from our vetted partner network, it is no more than three years old and in the same category you booked or higher. Occasionally we upgrade a client at the same price, and we do not charge extra when that happens.

No surprises on the bill

State tax

On most nearby states we pass on a discount of up to 50 per cent on the normal state tax, all year round, not as a seasonal offer. If you would rather have one all inclusive figure with nothing charged afterwards, ask and we will quote it that way.

How distance is counted

Our buses and tempo travellers run from Kandivali. Our cars run from Andheri. We do not want to bill you for the drive to your door, so for most pickups across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai we calculate distance from a point closer to your boarding location once you tell us where that is. Both kilometres and hours are counted the same way.

Waiting

A note on waiting. No vehicle stays running in standby for more than ten minutes in one spot. If you need the engine and air conditioning kept on while the vehicle waits, tell us and we will quote it, because it burns fuel.

    Maharaja Tempo Traveller FAQs

Every answer starts with the answer. If yours is not here, it is usually about a specific route or date, and both are quicker on a call.

    Ask about your trip →

It is a standard tempo traveller rebuilt inside. The narrow rows come out and fewer, wider seats go in. Think of it as the difference between economy and business class on a flight. You are paying for width, an armrest of your own and personal space rather than for a different vehicle.

Yes and no. It is not necessarily a physically bigger vehicle, but it is generally a higher capacity base vehicle modified to give fewer, wider seats. A 13 seater Maharaja may be built from a 20 seater tempo traveller. A 20 seater Maharaja may be built from a 26 seater. The vehicle is the same size outside. There is simply more space per passenger inside.

Two sizes in the tempo traveller: a 13 seater with one seat each side of the aisle, and a 20 seater with two on one side and one on the other. There is also a Maharaja luxury modified Urbania in 9 and 10 seater.

No seat in any of these vehicles reclines fully, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling. The recline angle is broadly similar across categories. What a Maharaja actually gives you is width, armrests and space, not a flatter seat.

No. Maharaja vehicles come through our vetted partner network. We keep them under three years old and in the category you booked or higher, and we check the interior before it goes out.

On a two hour drive, probably not. On a six hour run to Shirdi or an overnight to Goa, most people say yes. The honest test is the length of the trip and who is travelling.

All our vehicles are speed limited to 80 km per hour, which RTO rules require. It is set in the vehicle and we cannot raise it. Factor that into your timings, and see the route table above for realistic drive times.

From a point close to your boarding location wherever we can, not strictly from our garage. Our buses and tempo travellers sit in Kandivali and our cars in Andheri, and we would rather not bill you for the drive to your door. Tell us your pickup point and we will confirm how it is being counted.

The bigger the vehicle, the lower the cost per head. A 13 seater on a Lonavala day trip runs about ₹8,000, which is roughly ₹615 each. A 49 seater coach on the same trip runs about ₹18,000, which is roughly ₹367 each. If you are close to the next size up, it is usually worth going up.

Book one size bigger than your headcount. It leaves a spare row, so someone can put their feet up and lie down on a long stretch, or the children have somewhere to play. It is the single best piece of advice we give and it costs very little.

To secure your preferred vehicle, book as early as you can. We also take last minute bookings up to an hour before pickup, depending on what is free and where it is.

Yes, because fewer people are travelling in the same body. Medium bags roughly match the seat count and large bags come to about 60 to 65 per cent of it, so at a lower seat count everybody gets more room for bags too.

    Not quite the right size?
