Same Day, Monsoon
- Depart Mumbai before the Thane traffic builds.
- Arrive.Waterfalls and the ghat viewpoints.
- Lunch, then Tringalwadi or the lake.
- Depart, back in Mumbai by around 21:00.
Mumbai to Igatpuri is about 122 km on the map and takes around 3 hours in a car. In one of our vehicles, plan for roughly 140 km and 4 hours. The Kasara ghat is the part that decides your timing.
Two very different groups book this route. Monsoon trippers going for the waterfalls, and people travelling to the Vipassana centre at Dhamma Giri. We run both, and the second needs a driver who understands the arrival and departure timings.

The slow stretch. Leaving before 7 makes a real difference.

Standard halt. Tea and washrooms, about 20 minutes.
04
120 km3 h 20 m
The climb. Scenic in monsoon and slow in heavy rain. This is where the extra hour goes.

Drop at your hotel, at Dhamma Giri, or at the lake.
Google Maps assumes a car on an empty road. Our vehicles are speed limited to 80 km per hour as RTO rules require, they carry a full load, and they halt on the way. Plan for roughly 10 to 15 per cent more distance than the map says, an hour more on trips up to five hours, and two hours more beyond that.
Some venues and rural roads on this route cannot take a large vehicle. Send us the exact pickup and drop addresses, including any unpaved or monsoon affected stretches, and we will confirm access before you book rather than on the day.

Softer suspension on the ghat sections
| Group size | We suggest | Why on this route | Trip shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 to 6 | Kia Carens, Ertiga or SUV | Quick and flexible for a small group | Same day |
| 7 to 13 | 14 seater Tempo Traveller | One vehicle beats two cars from seven adults | Same day or 1 night |
| 9 to 16 | 16 seater Force UrbaniaPopular pick | Softer suspension on the ghat sections | 1 night |
| 13 to 20 | Maharaja Tempo Traveller | Wider seats for a longer drive | 1 or 2 nights |
| 14 to 26 | Tempo Traveller | Best cost per seat, sofa-cum-bed row | 1 night |
| 19 to 33 | Mini Bus | Society and office groups | 1 night |
| 45 and above | Luxury AC Bus | Large groups, lowest cost per head | 1 night |
The bigger the vehicle, the less each person pays. A 13 seater on a Lonavala day trip works out around ₹615 a head. A 49 seater on the same trip works out around ₹367. If your group sits close to the next size up, going up usually costs less per person.
Travelling with elderly passengers or small children? Book one size above your headcount. The spare row means somebody can put their feet up and lie down, or the children have somewhere to play.
For Vipassana arrivals the vehicle matters less than the timing. Course registration windows are fixed and late arrival is a real problem, so we build in a buffer on that run rather than quoting the tightest possible schedule.
Planning the day
Our recommendation Same day works well in monsoon when the waterfalls are the whole point. One night is better if you want the lake and the ghats without rushing. Vipassana travel is a fixed date arrival and departure rather than an itinerary.

The year on this road
Monsoon, June to September, is when Igatpuri is at its best.
The waterfalls are the reason most people come.
Rain gear between June and September, and proper footwear.
The viewpoints get slippery.
Course arrival and departure timings are fixed and strict.
Tell us your course dates and we plan a buffer into the drive.
Tringalwadi Fort, Camel Valley, Bhatsa river valley and the Kasara ghat viewpoints.
The scenic part of the drive and the slow part.
In heavy rain add an hour, and expect stop-start traffic on monsoon weekends.
Monsoon weekends are extremely busy.
A weekday trip in the same season is a completely different experience.
Before you ask about price
About 3 hours for the 122 km in a car. In a full vehicle with a speed limiter, a halt and the Kasara ghat, plan for around 140 km and 4 hours. In heavy monsoon rain add another hour.
Yes, regularly. Course arrival and departure timings are fixed and strict, so tell us your dates and we plan the drive with a buffer rather than quoting the tightest possible schedule.
For the waterfalls, yes, and it is why most groups go. It is also the busiest and the slowest on the ghat. A weekday in the same season gives you the scenery without the traffic.
Yes, Nashik is about 45 km further on. Many groups combine them across a weekend. Tell us at booking so the kilometres are in the package.
Both work. Same day is fine in monsoon when the waterfalls are the whole point. One night is better if you want the forts and the lake without rushing.
