Same Day Resort Outing
- Depart Mumbai.

Mumbai to Karjat is about 68 km on the map and takes around 2 hours in a car. In one of our vehicles, plan for roughly 78 km and 3 hours. It is the closest proper day trip from Mumbai.
Most bookings on this route are resort day-outs and corporate outings. The resorts are spread out and many are down narrow approach roads, so the vehicle size matters more here than the distance does.

Google Maps assumes a car on an empty road. Our vehicles are speed limited to 80 km per hour as RTO rules require, they carry a full load, and they halt on the way. Plan for roughly 10 to 15 per cent more distance than the map says, an hour more on trips up to five hours, and two hours more beyond that.
Some venues and rural roads on this route cannot take a large vehicle. Send us the exact pickup and drop addresses, including any unpaved or monsoon affected stretches, and we will confirm access before you book rather than on the day.

Group size
The usual choice for a group day out
| Group size | We suggest | Why on this route | Trip shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 to 6 | Kia Carens, Ertiga or SUV | Reaches resorts a coach cannot | Same day |
| 7 to 13 | 14 seater Tempo Traveller | Fits most resort approach roads | Same day |
| 9 to 16 | 16 seater Force Urbania | Comfortable and still manageable on narrow roads | Same day |
| 14 to 26 | Tempo TravellerPopular pick | The usual choice for a group day out | Same day |
| 19 to 33 | Mini Bus | Office outings, if the resort road allows | Same day |
| 45 and above | Luxury AC Bus | Only where the resort confirms coach access | Same day |
The bigger the vehicle, the less each person pays. A 13 seater on a Lonavala day trip works out around ₹615 a head. A 49 seater on the same trip works out around ₹367. If your group sits close to the next size up, going up usually costs less per person.
Travelling with elderly passengers or small children? Book one size above your headcount. The spare row means somebody can put their feet up and lie down, or the children have somewhere to play.
This is the route where vehicle size genuinely decides where you can go. Several Karjat resorts sit at the end of narrow farm roads that a full coach cannot turn on. Send us the resort name when you ask for a quote and we will tell you what will actually get there.
Planning the day
Our recommendation Same day is how almost everybody does Karjat. An overnight makes sense only if you are staying at a resort and the stay is the point rather than the destination.

Before you go
The year on this road
Monsoon and just after, June to October, when the rivers are running.
Winter is pleasant and less crowded.
The smaller approach roads flood in heavy rain.
Our drivers know which ones to avoid, but tell us if you are going in July or August.
Most Karjat bookings are resort day-outs.
Approach roads vary a great deal, so always send us the resort name.
Kondana Caves, Bhivpuri waterfalls, the Ulhas river and Peth Fort for anyone who wants to walk.
Rafting and rappelling operate in season.
Most resorts arrange them and we simply get you there and back.
Close enough that almost every booking is a day trip.
There is no need to stay unless the resort is the point.
Before you ask about price
About 2 hours for the 68 km in a car. In a full vehicle with a speed limiter and the exit traffic out of Mumbai, plan for around 78 km and 3 hours. Resorts beyond Karjat town add 15 to 30 minutes on smaller roads.
Not always. Several Karjat resorts are at the end of narrow farm roads. Send us the resort name when you ask for a quote and we will tell you honestly what size vehicle can get there.
Almost always a day trip. It is close enough that you can leave at 7.30 and be back by 8 in the evening with a full day there.
It is the best time for waterfalls and rivers and the worst for road conditions. Tell us if you are travelling in heavy rain so we can plan the approach.
Yes, they are about 40 km apart. Some groups do both across a weekend. Tell us at booking so the kilometres are in the package.
