Mumbai to Pune is about 150 km on the map and takes around 3 hours in a car. In one of our vehicles, plan for roughly 170 km and 4 hours. The expressway itself is quick. Getting out of Mumbai and into Pune is what takes the time.
We run this route daily, mostly for corporate travel and airport drops. One way is available, so if you only need the journey in one direction you are not paying for the return leg.
The drive itself
01
0 kmStart
Your pickup point. Cars from Andheri, larger vehicles from Kandivali.
02
40 km1 h 15 m
The slowest part of the trip and the least predictable.
03
100 km2 h 30 m
Fast and well surfaced. Our vehicles are limited to 80, so we gain less here than a car would.
04
120 km3 h 00 m
The standard stop, about 20 minutes.
05
170 km4 h 00 m
City traffic on arrival. Allow extra if you are going beyond the centre to Hinjewadi or Kharadi.
Google Maps assumes a car on an empty road. Our vehicles are speed limited to 80 km per hour as RTO rules require, they carry a full load, and they halt on the way. Plan for roughly 10 to 15 per cent more distance than the map says, an hour more on trips up to five hours, and two hours more beyond that.
Some venues and rural roads on this route cannot take a large vehicle. Send us the exact pickup and drop addresses, including any unpaved or monsoon affected stretches, and we will confirm access before you book rather than on the day.

The standard corporate and airport run
| Group size | We suggest | Why on this route | Trip shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | SedanPopular pick | The standard corporate and airport run | Same day or one way |
| 4 to 6 | Kia Carens or Ertiga | Family travel with luggage | Same day or one way |
| 7 to 13 | 14 seater Tempo Traveller | Team travel, one vehicle instead of three cars | Same day |
| 9 to 16 | 16 seater Force Urbania | Client and senior staff movement | Same day |
| 14 to 26 | Tempo Traveller | Department offsites | Same day |
| 19 to 33 | Mini Bus | Larger corporate groups | Same day |
| 45 and above | Luxury AC Bus or Eicher Volvo | Conference and event movement | Same day |
The bigger the vehicle, the less each person pays. A 13 seater on a Lonavala day trip works out around ₹615 a head. A 49 seater on the same trip works out around ₹367. If your group sits close to the next size up, going up usually costs less per person.
Travelling with elderly passengers or small children? Book one size above your headcount. The spare row means somebody can put their feet up and lie down, or the children have somewhere to play.
For anything above about 300 km an original Volvo starts to earn its cost. On Mumbai to Pune it generally does not, and we will say so rather than upsell you. A standard AC coach or an Eicher Volvo is the sensible choice on this road.
Planning the day
Our recommendation Most bookings here are one way or a same day return. Leave before 7 in the morning or after 11, because the expressway entry between those hours is where the delays happen.

Leaving Mumbai in the morning
Before 7 in the morning or after 11.
The expressway entry at Panvel between those hours is where most delays happen.
Expressway toll is billed at your actual FASTag statement rather than estimated.
You see the real figure.
Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta add 30 to 45 minutes beyond the city centre.
Tell us the destination, not just the city.
Available and usually cheaper than a return you do not need.
Airport to Pune is one of our most common bookings.
The expressway holds up well in rain
But the ghat section has poor visibility. Allow extra time in heavy weather.
Our vehicles are limited to 80 km per hour
So we gain less on the expressway than a private car would. The timing above reflects that.
Before you ask about price
About 3 hours for the 150 km in a car. In one of our vehicles, plan for around 170 km and 4 hours, because of the 80 km per hour speed limiter, a halt and the traffic at both ends. Leaving before 7 in the morning saves most of the difference.
Yes, and it is one of our most common bookings. If you only need the journey in one direction we price it that way rather than as a return trip you do not need. We also run one way drops to Lonavala, Vapi and Surat.
Yes, from both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. Give us the flight number and we track it, so a delayed landing does not mean a driver who has gone home.
Usually not. Air suspension makes its case over 400 km, and this is 170. A standard AC coach or an Eicher Volvo does the job at a lower price, and we would rather tell you that than take the larger booking.
Billed at your actual FASTag statement rather than estimated, so you pay what the vehicle actually paid.
